Levels and XP

Level up by hanging out in voice

Every second a member spends in voice earns 1 XP, and XP raises their level. Run /levels or /xp in Discord for the top members, or log in with Discord to watch the progress bar to the next level on a member profile.

1 XP for every second in voice

Every second a member spends in a voice channel earns 1 XP: 60 XP a minute and 3,600 XP an hour. ODIN counts from the moment they join to the moment they leave, and muted or deafened time counts like any other.

XP is lifetime and never goes down. There are no multipliers and no caps, so every member earns at the same rate in every server.

Counting starts when someone with the Administrator permission runs /odin enable, within about a minute. Time before that is not added.

The level curve: quick at first, then a real commitment

Your level is worked out from your total XP: floor(sqrt(XP / 8,950)) + 1. Level 2 starts at 8,950 XP, level 3 at 35,800 XP, and each level needs more than the one before.

Early levels come fast: level 2 after about 2.5 hours in voice and level 5 after about 40 hours. Later ones take a real commitment: level 10 needs about 201 hours, level 20 about 897 hours and level 50 about 5,969 hours.

Each step costs more than the last. Going from level 1 to 2 takes about 2.5 hours, from 9 to 10 about 42 hours and from 19 to 20 about 92 hours. The curve does not stop at a top level: it keeps climbing.

What regular voice time adds up to

The curve rewards a habit. A steady hour a day carries a member through the first few levels within the first month, and every level after that takes a little longer than the one before.

The table shows where one hour or three hours a day lands after 30 days, 100 days and a year. These are plain sums of the rule above, 1 XP for every second, and not typical figures for any server.

A steady habit, level by level

1 hour a day
Level 4 after 30 days, level 7 after 100 days and level 13 after a year.
3 hours a day
Level 7 after 30 days, level 11 after 100 days and level 21 after a year.

Progress to the next level, on your profile

Log in with Discord and open a member profile on the website. It shows the level as a lime pill, a progress bar from the XP where the level starts to the XP where the next one starts, and a line like “72,550 XP to level 18, about 20h 9m of voice time”.

The time makes it concrete: you see the XP that is left and the hours of voice it takes to get there.

You see the servers you share with ODIN, and only members of a server can open its profiles. Your level stays visible even when you hide your activity details with /odin privacy details:hide. The server stats dashboard also charts how your server's members are spread across levels.

In Discord: /levels and /xp as picture cards

/levels and /xp each answer with a picture card of the top 10, as a public reply in the channel that anyone who can read the channel sees. Pick a window with the timeframe option: Last 24 Hours, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days or All Time. The default is 30 days.

Rows are ordered by voice time in the window, not by level or XP. /levels shows each member's lifetime level as the Lv pill, with their time in voice under the name, and /xp shows their lifetime XP and level.

Your own row is highlighted with a YOU tag, or shown under a dotted divider below the list when you are not in the top 10. Every picture has alt text with one line for each row. Someone with the Administrator permission can switch a server to text boards with /odin style style:text. The voice leaderboards page has the four windows and the website's full boards.

A level pill that levels up too

In ODIN's picture replies the Lv pill next to a name changes its look as the level rises. It is plain from level 1 to 9, takes an accent colour from level 10, a sheen from level 20, a halo from level 50 and stars from level 70.

From level 100 it gets a ring, from level 250 studs, from level 500 wings, from level 750 grand wings and a gem, and from level 1000 a crown. The look is drawn as a still in the picture, so it never moves.

It follows the lifetime level, and since XP never goes down, a level keeps its look. The pill is on every row of the /voice, /levels, /xp and /members pictures. The website shows the plain lime pill for every level.

Frequently asked questions

How much XP does an hour in voice earn?

3,600 XP. ODIN gives 1 XP for every second in voice, which is 60 XP a minute. There are no multipliers and no caps, so every member earns at the same rate.

How many hours does it take to reach level 10?

About 201 hours of voice time. Level 10 starts at 724,950 XP, and the first levels come much faster: level 2 after about 2.5 hours and level 5 after about 40 hours.

Does XP reset or go down?

No. XP is lifetime and never goes down, so a level is never lost. A member who runs /odin optout is no longer tracked in that server and is hidden from its boards and profiles. Their earlier data is kept but not shown, and /odin optin reverses it.

Do muted or deafened members earn XP?

Yes. ODIN counts the time from the moment a member joins a voice channel to the moment they leave, so muted and deafened time earns XP like any other.

Does the level pill look different at higher levels?

In ODIN's picture replies, yes. The Lv pill is plain from level 1 to 9, takes an accent colour from level 10, a sheen from 20, a halo from 50 and stars from 70. From level 100 it gets a ring, from 250 studs, from 500 wings, from 750 grand wings and a gem, and from 1000 a crown. The look is a still image, and the website shows the plain pill.

Why is someone with a lower level above me on /levels?

Every voice board is ordered by voice time in the window you pick, such as the last 7 days. /levels shows each member's lifetime level beside that time, so a member with a lower level can rank higher if they spent more time in voice in that window.
